Supporting the Wellness House

According to Lisa Kolavennu, Clinical Director of the Wellness House, “To be heard and understood by others is crucial during the cancer experience. Support during this time can help normalize unfamiliar feelings, provide validation of your experience, and help you know that you don’t need to face cancer alone. Being with others who are in a similar situation can provide hope and strength.” (To read the full interview with Lisa Kolavennu, click here.)

For years the Wellness House has been providing our cancer patients and those closest to them with information and emotional support. Last December, the employees of Hinsdale Hematology Oncology presented the physicians with a holiday gift- a donation to the Wellness House in the form of a “Circle of Hope Tribute Brick.” Last week the brick was installed by the front entrance, and we became a part of the Wellness House indefinitely.

We are so grateful for all the support the Wellness House has given our patients over the years- 20 to be exact. This year, we helped the Wellness House celebrate their 20 year anniversary by becoming a bronze level sponsor for 2010 and participating in the Walk for Wellness House last May. We are also one of the sponsors for their 20th Anniversary Ball on October 23. Tickets are selling out fast, so if you are interested in attending, you can find more information on www.wellnesshouse.org.
